Also called the Japanese crystal, the Great Pagoda is one of a family of burr puzzles of which the simplest has only three pieces. Such burrs have been popular in Japan for many years and may well have originated there. As the pieces are added, the puzzles have successively 9, 19, 33, 51, 73, and 99 pieces. We have produced the 51-piece version. Each piece has been carefully cut so that the pieces can interlock to make a symmetrical, multifaceted structure with a solid core. Once assembled, no single piece can be pulled out to take the puzzle apart.
